Alexandra Hatcher
As an employee, board member, facilitator, contractor, and volunteer, Alexandra Hatcher has worked with, and for, non-profit and public sector cultural organizations throughout her career. Facilitating visioning and strategic planning work, developing policy, and building capacity in the arts and heritage sector, Alexandra has worked with a variety of organization’s including Arts Commons, TELUS World of Science - Edmonton, and the Leighton Art Centre.
Alexandra holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Winnipeg, a Certificate in Arts and Cultural Management from MacEwan University in Edmonton, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Victoria, British Columbia, and is an alumni of the Getty Centre’s Museum Leadership Institute.
Working for the City of Calgary, as a Civic Partner Consultant in the Arts & Culture Division (2007 – 2009), she was the liaison between arts and heritage organizations and the municipality, working directly with organizations that held a lease agreement, operating agreement, funding agreement or other formal relationship with the municipality. During her time at the City of Calgary, Alexandra was responsible for the development of the Culture-Related Infrastructure Funding Program and the distribution of $165 million of Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) funds to cultural capital projects across Calgary including the National Music Centre, new Central Library, and DJD Danceworks Building.
From 2009 – 2014, Alexandra was the Executive Director / CEO of the Alberta Museums Association (AMA) where she worked with museums across Alberta. Alexandra directed a team that developed, delivered, and evaluated a variety of programs, including a Grants Program, professional development opportunities, publications and advisory services. As a provincial service agency, the AMA worked closely with a variety of partners including Alberta Culture and Tourism, Department of Canadian Heritage and the Canadian Commission for UNESCO.
In 2010, she was named one of Edmonton Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 under 40 and in November 2011 was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Awardfrom MacEwan University. Publications include the “Governance and Operations” chapter of the Standard Practices Handbook for Museums 3rd Edition (2014) and as a contributor to HELP! An emergency preparedness manual for museums 2nd Edition (2018).
