Andrea Roberts

Andrea Roberts is a dance artist, scholar, and arts manager with more than a decade of data management experience in the non-profit sector. She has a passion for archives, information architecture, rehearsal direction, and creative problem-solving. Roberts holds an MA in dance studies from York University, and a certificate in Information Systems Management from Ryerson University. She works at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre, where she manages scheduling and student admissions.

Over the course of her career, Roberts has been involved in the creative process of more than twenty-five choreographers. She also acted as Artistic Advisor for Jennifer Dallas / Kẹmi Contemporary Dance Projects from 2007 - 2017. Roberts was on the artistic team for Sylvain Émard's Le Grand Continental, coaching community members and performing in Toronto's 2018 Luminato Festival. She also recently participated in a research project that looked at SusieBurpee’s role as interpreter in Tedd Robinson’s choreography from 1996-2018.

Roberts has presented several papers throughout North America that investigate various aspects of creation, preservation, and (re)interpretation, and she maintains an active interest in the conversations around performance memory. Her journal chapter on digital dance and “the archived body” will be published in 2021.

Roberts was a member of the board of the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists (CADA-ON, now CADA East) for six years, where she served as Treasurer and then Chair. She currently acts Treasurer for the board of the Dancemakers Centre for Creation.
