Esther Arbeid
Esther Arbeid has been working at the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre (JCC) in downtown Toronto for many years. She brings a background in theatre to all that she does. Esther began at the JCC as a volunteer. She founded a program called Between Stages, which offers play readings from emerging playwrights, performed by professional Toronto actors. Esther has built a solid theatre development department at the JCC that engages established, emerging and amateur playwrights and actors. Her department has grown to include theatre skills workshops, playwriting and acting classes. She runs the Canadian Jewish Playwriting Competition, which partners with other cultural institutions across Canada to support new voices and stories with Jewish themes from Canadians of all backgrounds and cultures. Esther heads the Toronto Jewish Film Society, a year-round subscription series of curated films and noted guest speakers with over 300 subscribers. Esther also manages the MNjcc Pottery department, including co-ops, workshops and classes for all ages. Esther could not do what she does were it not for a vast network of volunteers as well as partners who work in the professional arts community in Toronto. They bring passion and expertise to the cultural arts programs of the JCC.
